As a designer, I have a few favorite tried and true living room floorplans I love. These plans will work best in rectangular or square rooms that have ample space. We have all seen The Standard, but it's still a favorite, especially for smaller spaces. The other two can get really fun when you add in prints and color. Think of the ottomans having the same fabrics as the pillows on the sofas etc.
You can work out your space plan on good old fashioned graph paper, even cutting out furniture to scale and moving it around on the paper. I have also used this sticker set in the past and have enjoyed it.
When I'm working on a floorplan for a client, I always use Design Files. It's also been my go-to mood board software for over ten years. I HIGHLY recommend it when planning any room design.
Here are some IRL examples of each type:
The Sectional Look
Seeing Double
The Standard
Think of these floor plans as a starting point and then add in some other elements from there. A chaise? An offset chair? It's your house-- you do you!!
Happy planning,
Rachel
